Achieve Skin Perfection With Nuxe

Eye Rockz Mineral Eyeshadow

Honestly, I was apprehensive on trying the product as I had close to zero experience with eyeshadows; what more mineral eyeshadow that is still in the powder form.

The petite package contains 4 cards and the eyeshadow sample packed nicely in an organza pouch.

Application tips card, business card, thank you card cum discount card and a card that states the ingredients (L-R)

I was this close to picking up 3 green-coloured eyeshadow ( you should know why) but I resisted and pick Nature, Peppermint and Snowflakes.

Name : Eye Rockz Mineral Eyeshadow
Ingredients: Mica, Titanium Oxide, Tin Oxide, Iron Oxide, Magnesium Stearate
Scent / Texture : Scent-free , smooth powdery texture

What I Like
Since it is an all natural, preservative free provde,it is gentle on my eyelids and it should suits all skin type. Being a finely grounded powder, it was smooth upon application. Suprising, there was not much fall-outs and products sticks pretty well to the base. As for the pigmentation wise, it deserves two thumbs up. For an eyeshadow virgin (well almost), I'm truly amazed with this product. Application was definitely a breeze! The powder basically glides onto my eyelid. Best of all, the product is multi-use! You can use it as an eyeliner by dampening the brush and applying it as you would normally do. You can add the powder to clear nail polish to match the eyeshadow you are wearing. My favourite of all is using the shade SNOWFLAKES to highlight my face!

What I Don't Like
For now, there's really none! If in anyway the eyeshadow doesn't look good on me, its MY application technique and has nothing to do with the product itself. Somehow or rather, I managed to create this fuss-free eye look in under 10minutes!
For those who wants to give this mineral eyeshadow a try, here's your chance to!

Nixoderm

After the great experience reviewing The Body Shop Tea Tree range, I'm pretty much open to trying out products that claims to banish blemishes. Therefore, I picked up the trial-size (5.34g) of Nixoderm at a price of $2.60.

Honestly, the green packaging did enticed me too.

Name: Nixoderm
Amount / Quantity: 5.34g
Made in : Malaysia
Ingredients: Benzoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Precipitated Sulphur
Directions for use: After cleaning, apply gently but thoroughly a liberal amount so that the entire surface is covered
Scent : Slight sulphuric/medicated smell
Colour/ Texture: off-white cream

What I Like
Upon application, the cream had a cooling effect on the skin, which then turn into a tingling sensation before everything subsides. Most importantly, it help to 'suck out' the pus out of the pimple 15 minutes after I first applied it. Other than that, I love its multi-purpose use. I'm a sucker for multi-use items actually.

A bonus characteristic is that the cream is moist and doesn't flake off upon drying.

What I Don't Like
No doubt the packaging is petite and all that but the constant fingers dipping into the container is a big no-no.

Justification
For a small product that packs a punch, I'm willing to overlook the packaging. Anyway I can always use cotton buds to scoop up the cream.

Physiogel Cleanser, Lotion and Cream

I recently received the Physiogel Hypoallergenic travel pack which consisted of the cleanser, lotion and cream.

Physiogel is created with Derma Membrane Technology Structure (DMS) technology for dehydrated and itchy skin. Some common factors that aggravate skin dryness are exposure to outdoor elements, prolonged exposure to air conditioning (I'm guilty of that!), bathing or cleansing in hot water with soap (I had no idea!),smokin and stress

Name : Physiogel Cleanser
Amount / Quantity : 10ml
Made in : Singapore
Ingredients : purified water, PEG-4000, cetostearyl, alcohol, sodium cocoyl isethionate, disodium hydrogen phosphate, citric acil, methyl paraben, proplyparaben, fragrance
Direction for use :
With water : Apply liberal amount on the face and massage in circular motion. Rinse with water.
Without water : Apply liberal amount on the face and massage in circular motion. Remove excess with tissue
Scent : Scent free
Colour / Texture : Translucent-milkyish gel like texture

What I like
Feel very gentle on the skin ; slight emollient feeling upon application
Can be used with/without water
For use on face and body

What I don't like
Doesn't foam up at all; giving me the perception that my skin is not clean enough

Name : Physiogel Lotion
Amount / Quantity : 10ml
Made in : Ireland
Ingredients : Not stated
Directions : Apply once or twice daily. Ideal for body
Scent : Scent free
Colour / Texture : White non-runny liquid

What I Like
Fast absorbing
Being scent-free. it doesn't clash with my body spray scent

What I Don't Like
Non at the moment

Name : Physiogel Cream
Amount / Quantity : 3ml
Made in : Ireland
Ingredients : Not stated
Directions : Apply once or twice daily. Ideal for face and body
Scent : Scent free
Colour / Texture : White creamy texture; thicker consistency than the lotion

What I Like
Thick consistency
Easy application

What I Don't Like
Takes a long time to be absorbed by the skin
Sticky feeling on the skin

Conclusion
Overall, I do love the lotion and cleanser! I have resorted to using it as a night cream. It works!
Judging from the amount of products that I pile on my face everyday, it might be a wise choice to move towards the direction of using soap-free and non-comodogenic products to keep my skin clean and supple.

Charcoal Black Heal Pharm Cleaner Pack

I headed down to Watson's and only managed to find a box of Charcoal Black Heal Pharm Cleaner Pack!

Name: Charcoal Black Heal Pharm Cleaner Pack
Amount / Quantity: 10pieces per pack
Made in : China
Scent/Texture : Black sticky texture upon contact with water. Sweet scent which reminded me of 'FA' underarm deodorant.
Ingredients

Directions for use: Wet nose. Remove cleaning sheet with dry hands. Remove film and place sheet on nose. Wait for 10-15 minutes to dry. Peel off slowly from side and then bottom to upper part of nose.

What I Like
Fuss free
Easy usage
Ample of instructions on packaging
Fits well onto nose
Removes black heads and gunks effectively. Look out for the blob of oil on the strip!

What I Don't Like
Strip tends to slide around if nose is too wet; will be okay after drying.
Moderate pain during removal.

Justification
Instead of following the instructions of removal method, I basically yank it out! The nose definitely felt sore but was smooth as a baby's bottom after rinsing. One additional score point will be that I noticed my pores seems to be smaller! Worth the pain and definitely worth the price of $1.95 per box!

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Hydrating Face Wash and Hydrating Lotion

I made my way to City Hall to collect the sample despite the constant drizzle and it was a worthy trip!

Why? Because the products were those retail-sized bottles!

Name: Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Face Wash
Amount / Quantity: 100g

Ingredients

Directions for use: Use twice a day. Squeeze sufficient amount onto palm.Lather with water and massage onto face, using circular motions. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Scent : Mild egg-ish coconuty oil scent
Colour/ Texture: White soft cream

What I Like
Lathers nicely into a creamy foam.
Foam feels very rich and soft.
No tight feeling of skin after using.
Easy to rinse off.
Does not leave behind sticky feeling upon rinsing.

What I Don't Like
Skin don't really feels hydrated after using the face wash.

Justification
Product works well as a gentle cleanser that does not strip off the skin of the leftover moisture. However, it needs to be complement with the lotion before the hydrating effect can be felt.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Natural Facial Scrub

I've seen a couple of reviews on its facial mask counterpart but not so much for this product here. I purchased it off drugstore.com for approximately $11.

As you know, I'm a fan of anything green and anything minty too actually. What attracted me was the fact that I can use it daily; which implies the scrub has tiny debris as compared to other facial scrub that I've used. "Unclog pores" and I'm totally sold!
I don't quite get the 'Rinse well with warm water part'. Is it really necessary?

There is a heck of alot of paraben(s) in this product. There was; not sure if it still is, a controversy that parabens have weak estrogenic activity that is a trigger factor of breast cancer. Yikes!

Scent : Eventhough the name states as Mint, it has more of a lemongrassy smell.
Colour/ Texture : Chocolate-greyish with fine grains
Directions: Moisten face and massage product gently into the skin avoiding the area near the eyes.

After product was moistened.

What I Like
The sturdy packaging doesn't seem to collapse or flatten at odd corners despite frequently squeezing the tube.
Thick and is not runny; reducing wastage when squirting out product.
Fine grains; doesn't feel like I was rubbing sandpaper on my skin.

What I Don't Like
I don't quite fancy the lemongrassy scent but the scent does cease upon rinsing.
I'm as blind as a bat in the shower and a fast forgetter too and the screw cap definitely doesn't help.

Justification
I'm sitting on the fence with this product. I can't bring myself to tolerate with a scent that I dislike despite how wonderful the product is. No doubt the product did justice in unclogging my pores and the tiny bumps on my cheeks has reduced. I suppose I don't mind trying out other products that functions as this one does.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Trial

Day Zero
I was selected as one of the 10 lucky fans to participate in The Body Shop Tea Tree user trial. I made my way to the main office to attend an introductory workshop and for collection of the Tea Tree Skin Care Essential Kit. It was a fast event and I didn't snap any pictures because I don't wish to be the only dimwit in the room doing so.

The envelope contains the questionaire and a print-out of the product(s) in the kit.
The product is created for oily/blemished skin; given that tea tree oil has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties.
Let's see how my skin condition will fare after 7 days!

Day One
I shall begin the trial by posting the history and current condition of my skin. Through out my teenage years, I was blessed with good skin. I had normal skin type and I don't even have pimples. The only regret I had was not applying sunscreen despite being under the for more than 5 hours during uniform group trainning. Fast forward a few years later, I noticed that my skin becomes oily at about just anytime and battling blemishes is a daily affair. One heal, another pops. Late puberty I suppose.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the areas that blemishes occurs on, are each caused by something different, be it stress, hormones or even digestion. A problem with any of these could cause a certain area of your face to break out.. For my case, blemishes on my cheeks are caused by stomach/digestion problems. I constantly suffer from constipation no matter how much of fibre is added to my diet and worst still I am lactose intolerant.
Once you know the possible causes of your blemishes and where they appear, it can be much easier to treat by adjusting your diet and using the right product.

Tea tree oil is a strong organic solvent that can penetrate the skin unlike many other products; thus help in clearing skin infections.
Although tea tree oil has no known side effects, some individuals may be sensitive to it. This calls for consideration of the strength of tea tree oil and should never be used undiluted on the body and particularly on sensitive areas.
During this 7-Day trial, I will be using the product(s) twice a day; in the morning and before bed. Do stay tune!

 Day Two

Our face accumulates all types of particles everyday. Aside from particles caused by external factors, our face also happen to receive different kinds of chemical substances brought about by different beauty regimen as well as makeup. Since our face takes up a lot different facial beatings everyday, we need to ensure that we keep it youthful and glowing despite the many different treatments it continues to receive. And one of the best ways in which we can keep it as healthy as it can possibly be is by means of cleansing. Daily cleansing can also help clean up your face from the harmful bacteria, dirt, sweat, and pollution which it can accumulate everyday. These are the factors responsible for giving you acne breakouts.

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash
A cleansing gel-based facial wash, suitable for everyday use to help clear and prevent blemishes, removing excess oil without overdrying the skin (http://thebodyshop.com.sg/)
Scent : mild antiseptic-ish smell
Colour / Texture : Green gel-like liquid
Directions : Lather and massage gently into face and neck with fingertips in an outward circular motion. Rinse using clean water.

What I like
The clear container allows one to see how much of product is left. Study plastic bottle that maintains its shape after squeezing
Small bottle opening and gel-like texture of product prevents wastage
Face feels clean without the tightening feeling.
Mild or almost nil tingling sensation

What I don't like
Product does not lather up much foam; resulting in me squeezing out more than amount needed to achieve enough foam. (I just love foams!)

Justification
The fact that the product does not foam up as much could imply that there is nil or very limited quantity of sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLS and SLES) which are both well-known for producing lots of lather. These two ingredients are also classified as harsh cleansers and can be harmful to our skin and the environment.

Day Three

Toner removes dirt and make up residues and tightens the pores of the skin. Other than that, it also refreshes the face. A perfect toner can benefit individuals with too oily skin. It helps to remove the excessive oil production on the surface of the skin which is one major cause of acne breakouts and blemishes. However, toners tend to have alcohol that could cause skin dryness. That's where the moisturizer comes it.

There is 2 school of thoughts for the application of toner. You could dab it onto the skin surface to ensure that the product is being absorbed or you could pour onto a facial cotton and swipe it across your face to remove excess gunks and junks. The spokeperson during the trial briefing mentioned that since the toner has anti-bacterial properties, the second method is encouraged.

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner
Features a new ‘shake to activate’ refreshing formula to effectively tone the skin, remove traces of impurities while leaving skin looking matte and without drying out your skin. (http://thebodyshop.com.sg/)
Scent : Strong antiseptic-sh smell
Colour / Texture : Green watery liquid with white residue that settles at the bottom ( Was informed that the white residue is actually cornstarch; which acts as an agent to absorb excess oil)
Directions : Shake the bottle and dampen a piece of cotton pad with product and wipe it gently upwards and outwards without dragging your skin.

What I like
The clear container allows one to see how much of product is left.
Does aid in removal of excess oil. Seems to shrink pore size.
What I don't like
Upon application, face does not tingle but feels warm. Soon enough, stinging sensation could be felt, subsiding about 3-5 minutes later, depending on the amount used.
Justification
During the briefing session, I was informed before hand that stinging effect could be felt upon using the entire trial pack. However, it is not an area of concern as the stinging feeling does not imply allergy reaction but more of the product busting germs due to its antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. Stinging means the product is working.

Interesting facts
The toner contains caramel!!

Day Four
Tea Tree Oil

Helps to cleanse and combat blemishes, without over drying the skin. (http://thebodyshop.com.sg/)
Scent : Strong medicated smell
Colour / Texture : Colourless liquid
Directions : For targeted treatment, apply on troubles spots directly.
What I like
 Convenient size; great for travelling
Many uses ( Watch for it on day 6)
What I don't like
Not at the moment

    Day Five
    Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion

A beautifully light and moisturising lotion that sinks into the skin to hydrate and help clear and prevent blemishes. This lotion also contains powders for shine control. Skin appears matte.

    Scent : Mild medicated smell
Colour / Texture : Opaque gel like texture
Directions : Dab a few drops on your face and gently work upward and downward stroking motions.
    pic of color n texture

    What I like
Feels lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin
Helps to keep skin matte and appreas to shrink pores
    Cooling effect on skin
    What I don't like
    Not at the moment

    Day Six
Different uses of Tea Tree Oil
I've mentioned that other than being convenient, tea tree oil also has many functions. As of this moment, these are the ways that I've been using the tea tree oil other than its intended purpose.
    1. Used as a smelling salt to combat motion sickness.
    2. Added to normal shampoo to combat itchy and flaky scalp.
    3. Applied on mosquito bites to reduce itch and swelling.
    Day 7
    Conclusion
The range did help to diminish small pimples but the bigger ones remained. However, to a certain extend it did help by preventing the other pimples from growing bigger. The mattifying effect removes oil and made my skin feels refreshed.
I suppose, the remaining stubborn blemishes are due to blocked pores and what I truly need is a deep cleansing regime. As for the tea tree range, I will continue using it to complement my previous regime that targets my other area of concerns, mainly fine lines and pigmentation.
Don't we wish there's an all in one product out there?
